Firstly, it should be needless to say that it is impossible to reconstruct an entire hypothetical ancient animal based on a few teeth! There is no belief of dinosaurs in the Native American religion or tradition. For that matter, why were there no discoveries prior to the nineteenth century in any part of the world? All these places were inhabited and well-explored for thousands of years before this time, why had no one ever found a dinosaur fossil before? Marsh is said to have discovered over different ancient species including 80 dinosaurs, while Cope discovered Out of the dinosaur species supposedly discovered by the two men, however, only 32 are presently considered valid; the rest have all proven to be falsifications and fabrications! None of them once claimed to find a complete skeleton either, so all their work involved reconstructions. In fact, to this day no complete skeleton has ever been found, and so all dinosaurs are reconstructions. The finds are often made during special dinosaur-bone hunting trips and expeditions by these people to far-away regions already inhabited and explored. This seems highly implausible.

The Virtual Museum of Contemporary Classicism “Et in Arcadia” is Nicolas Poussin’s elegiac meditation on a Latin phrase found in Virgil’s fifth eclogue that translates literally as “Even in Arcady, there am I,” or “Death is even in Arcady,” but has been interpreted in various ways through the ages. Erwin Panofsky treats the phrase, and Poussin’s possible interpretation, in depth in his “Meaning and the Visual Arts. A native race of the wild hills of the Peloponnesos in southern Greece, the Arcadians were “a tribe older than the moon” certainly pre-dating the Dorian invasions, or “the birth of Jupiter” and the establishment of the Olympian Pantheon.

May 17, at 8: Heartiste is arguing that if everyone was polyamorous, the average low-status man would be out of luck, not that it is bad for individual low-status men to practice polyamory if they could choose to do so obviously, allowing for more partners will increase your expected number of partners! Even if a low-status man has to choose between being exclusively mono and only dating poly people, the apparently larger fraction of women who are currently poly might still make this an attractive option, while being worse overall if universalized.

Scott Alexander May 17, at 9: Then we have about 4 times as many polyamorous relationships per randomly selected woman than we do per randomly selected man, which means that either extremely high fractions of poly women have majority or exclusively female partners unlikely, given the sexuality demographics of the survey or the LW survey has biases beyond the gender split.

I did find some additional polyamory data, though: People who drink more than me would argues strenuously that they are not alcoholics.

The time has come to rethink wilderness. This will seem a heretical claim to many environmentalists, since the idea of wilderness has for decades been a fundamental tenet—indeed, a passion—of the environmental movement, especially in the United States. For many Americans wilderness stands as the last remaining place where civilization, that all too human disease, has not fully infected the earth.

It is an island in the polluted sea of urban-industrial modernity, the one place we can turn for escape from our own too-muchness. Seen in this way, wilderness presents itself as the best antidote to our human selves, a refuge we must somehow recover if we hope to save the planet. The more one knows of its peculiar history, the more one realizes that wilderness is not quite what it seems. Far from being the one place on earth that stands apart from humanity, it is quite profoundly a human creation—indeed, the creation of very particular human cultures at very particular moments in human history.

It is not a pristine sanctuary where the last remnant of an untouched, endangered, but still transcendent nature can for at least a little while longer be encountered without the contaminating taint of civilization. Wilderness hides its unnaturalness behind a mask that is all the more beguiling because it seems so natural. As we gaze into the mirror it holds up for us, we too easily imagine that what we behold is Nature when in fact we see the reflection of our own unexamined longings and desires.

To assert the unnaturalness of so natural a place will no doubt seem absurd or even perverse to many readers, so let me hasten to add that the nonhuman world we encounter in wilderness is far from being merely our own invention. I celebrate with others who love wilderness the beauty and power of the things it contains. Each of us who has spent time there can conjure images and sensations that seem all the more hauntingly real for having engraved themselves so indelibly on our memories.

Origins[ edit ] The earliest anarchist themes can be found in the 6th century BC among the works of Taoist philosopher Laozi [45] and in later centuries by Zhuangzi and Bao Jingyan. A great brigand becomes a ruler of a Nation”. He argued in Political Justice [61] [63] that government has an inherently malevolent influence on society and that it perpetuates dependency and ignorance.

He thought that the spread of the use of reason to the masses would eventually cause government to wither away as an unnecessary force. Although he did not accord the state with moral legitimacy, he was against the use of revolutionary tactics for removing the government from power.

Illegalism Illegalism was an anarchist practice that developed primarily in France, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland during the early s that found justification in Stirner’s philosophy. Illegalists usually did not seek moral basis for their actions, recognizing only the reality of “might” rather than “right”. For the most part, illegal acts were done simply to satisfy personal desires and needs, not for some greater ideal, [25] although some committed crimes as a form of propaganda of the deed.

The French Bonnot Gang were the most famous group to embrace illegalism. Instead, the illegalists argued that their actions required no moral basis as illegal acts were performed not in the name of a higher ideal, but in pursuit of one’s own desires. As a reaction to this, French anarchist communists attempted to distance themselves from illegalism and anarchist individualism as a whole.

Ah, hell with it. Weren’t we all just as painfully earnest about something once? Applying theory to practice is their thing, after all. And if it’s a big put-on, then it’s very well done.

Anarchism is a political philosophy that advocates self-governed societies based on voluntary institutions. These are often described as stateless societies, although several authors have defined them more specifically as institutions based on non-hierarchical or free associations. Anarchism holds the state to be undesirable, unnecessary and harmful.. While opposition to the state is central.

Anarchism is a widely disputed label, there are probably as many different kinds of anarchisms as there are different ideologies or traditions in statism. Therefore anarchism is used in a number of ways–by people who want to abolish the government, abolish capitalism, abolish violence, abolish technology, abolish large-scale production, or abolish society. But what does anarchism mean? The organizers of the site of course believe in a certain kind of anarchism, but it is our hope and goal to provide a basis for discussion.
